Kosher Beef Jerky for the New Year….

As many of you may know, the lunar calendar year is coming to an end and Rosh HaShana, or the Jewish new year is here.

Being Jewish, we get to make new years resolutions twice a year…score!!! Every Jewish man and woman always swears off eating for a whole 3 days and then they go back to eating knishes and danishes.

I think it’s time we all stick to our new years resolutions and start eating clean and taking care of our bodies, since it’s the only one we got! Yes, it’s easier said then done, but I promise once you start you will feel 100 times better about yourself and about the way you live your life. For those of you who have been following our blogs, I am not saying that kosher beef jerky is the answer, but it will sure as hell help the fight! At the end of the day it is a fight, you have to continuously fight with yourself to eat clean and train mean…trust me it’s not easy!

From the moment I wake up I have to fight the urge not to stuff unhealthy food down my throat. When I lose the fight and eat something unhealthy, I regret it just fast as I put in my mouth and that’s the worst part! I have been fighting my weight all my life and trust me when I say, it’s not worth it. The momentary pleasure is not worth the long term damage that’s being done to your body. Some don’t realize, but the weight gain effects your everyday lifestyle. Even the up and down of weight loss and gain does damage to your back and knees. After a while your body will tell that its’ had enough of the punishment and it will legit give up on you. Instead of a candy our that bag of chips, switch it up for some of our kosher beef jerky.

Our kosher beef jerky will satiate that mid day snack you are craving and you will burn calories eating it! You could even have out Teriyaki or Orange flavor if you have a sweet tooth. Most of us these days are too busy to eat lunch and lunch is a very important meal. When you start skipping meals, that’s when unhealthy snacking starts and before you know it you’ve eaten a snickers bar and half a bag of chips! If you would have had a bag of our delicious kosher beef jerky in your desk drawer this disaster would have been averted.

I am not saying that all the foods that we all love to eat have to be completely cut out of our lives, just have them on special occasions. Trust me when I say that when you start taking care of your body, you wont want to eat anything unhealthy. We all have hectic lives for one reason or another and at the end of the day stick to a new years resolution is hard work, G-d knows we make more than one! The trick is to make one resolution and stick to it…firmly. I guarantee that is that resolution is to be healthy, everything else in life will fall into place. When you feel better about yourself life is a little easier, things don’t seem like such a big deal anymore!

Have a happy, healthy & sweet New Year!!

Summer Fun with R.J.’s Kosher Beef Jerky

Yes, summer is finally here, and thank G-d we live on the west coast! This is the time of year when families of all shapes and sizes go on epic trips.

Being that most people are concentrated of be healthy, a lot of trips are centered around exercise. This week alone we have received multiple calls from people that need kosher beef jerky for hiking and camping trips.  The best part is when they get back and let us know that our jerky made their trip that much more enjoyable.

I personally find it a pain having to schlep everything, including the kitchen sink on a vacation. Being kosher you have to think 1o steps ahead of your everyday traveler. In one way or the other, kosher beef jerky is the answer to your traveling prayers. How many times can you eat bagels and cream cheese or fruit? Sometimes you crave a piece of meat and kosher beef jerky will be there for you. It doesn’t need to be refrigerated, so you don’t need to worry about fussing with coolers and ice, or make sure you have bread and mustard to make a sandwich. Kosher beef jerky is packed with all that you need nutritionally and it will give you the energy you need to continue having fun on your amazing vacation.

If eating jerky straight out of the bag, for some odd reason, is not your thing…I have heard that some have put it between two pieces of bread. I know that it sounds crazy, but those that have done it actually liked it. You could also sprinkle it on top of a salad and bam, you have a meal. You could buy lettuce or bread from pretty much any market and use R.J.’s kosher beef jerky to top it off!

The bottom line is, we do it all!

Why McDonald’s sucks…

This topic has been argued many times in the past, I mean a $.99 burger…come on, how good can it possibly be? Forget about how good it could be and focus on how good can it be for YOU! With the craze being fitness and health these days, I’m surprised that people still frequent places like this. Me being kosher solves that problem, but I don’t understand how people keep going back to places like McDonald’s. The only time I could see why people would eat that kind of fast food, would be after partying. You need food like that to sop up all the alcohol, so you don’t feel like dying the next day, but that’s the only reason. Anyone I know always regrets eating food like that right after they’ve eaten it.

Granted eating something healthier is more likely going to cost more, but its your body and you should take care of it. I’m not telling you to all of a sudden become kosher, but eating McDonald’s is not the way to go. Most people already know that kosher meat is a better choice than fast food. For a cow to be deemed kosher, it is passed to a rigorous test and if there more than two abrasions on any of its intestines it is automatically sold to non kosher slaughterhouse. Just imagine what a non kosher cow must look like on the inside. Granted the public are not eating the intestines, but how good could the meat be if the intestines are garbage.

One thing that has always turned my stomach was the McRib, it looks like something that made in some kind of a mold and spat out onto a sheet. From what I’m told, the BigMac doesn’t even taste like beef, so why even bother putting it in your body! Granted, McDonald’s has started serving salads of some sort, but who goes to there for a salad? I can’t imagine that people would wait in a drive-thru for a McDonald’s salad.

In this day age, we have become lazy! As much as the internet has made our lives easier it has also made us lazier then we already were. With every company offering free shipping and online shopping incentives, we don’t even go to the mall anymore. Going to mall was more than just for shopping, it was an outing, something to do to get out of the house. While most of us used to make a day of it, it always ended up with going to grab a bite to eat, more likely than not at a sit down restaurant, not fast food. Most people who eat fast food, finish the food before they even get home. You don’t even realize what you did until you were done!

The bottom line is people need to eat healthier and take care of their bodies more. Obesity has become an epidemic and most people realize they have problem when it’s already too late. So put down that greasy mess of a burger and pick up some weights do something proactive to change your life, you will thank me later!

Here’s to a healthier you and healthier future!

8 Healthy Eating Habits You Can Start Now….

It seems these days that everybody is trying to get into shape, some say that round is a shape, but that’s not what we’re talking about here! Here is Los Angeles there are private training gyms opening up every corner, and one of the biggest things now is CrossFit. With everyone trying to get their beach body just in time for summer, we figured we could suggest a couple of good eating habits to go along with the training.

Before we get into eating habits, I want to write about the gym. The most important thing to do when trying to get in shape is to work out. The two go hand in hand, if you work out and don’t eat right than you are just chasing your tail and visa verse. If you just want to lose weight than cardio is the answer. I know that’s not what some people want to here but that’s the truth, weight training will only do so much. We’ve gotten use to things coming to us and we’ve become quite lazy. We don’t even have to leave the comfort of our lazy boy, all we need is a laptop and an internet connection. There are companies that will bring your groceries and toilet paper all you have to do is get up and open door when the door bell rings. Most companies offering free shipping, so you don’t have to go to the mall and worry about what you look like in front of other people. We have become disconnected from the society and have become over weight in the process.

So now that we got that out of the way….we can get into some healthy eating habits.

The reason most times we binge is because we are so hungry and don’t think about what we put in our bodies. You need to eat regularly throughout the day to keep the hunger monsters at bay. Having 5 or 6 little healthy meals throughout the day and drinking the suggested amount of water will help you stay on the path.

I’m sure you all have heard something along the lines of not eating past a certain time at night. Some say 7, some say 8, some say that you shouldn’t eat three hours before you go to sleep. Between all these tips you will end up fasting! The true tip is to eat a light and healthy dinner, consisting of some sort of protein, preferably chicken or fish. It goes without saying that there shouldn’t be anything fried or starchy as the side dish, some vegetables or a salad will do.

If you know that you are going to be out and about all day, try to plan ahead and pack a healthy meal and maybe a snack to keep you away from fast food drive thrus and 7-11′s.

One of the worst things ever made is probably the TV dinner. The one thing you should while eating is eat. Watching TV or checking your facebook while eating is a very bad habit. Its takes your brain at least 15 minutes to tell you your full, doing other things while eating prolonges that process and you end up eating more because you don’t feel satiated.

The next tip I’m sure you all have heard before….eat slowly! First cutting your food in small pieces is part workout. Then eating those small pieces and chewing them slowly helps your digestion and you get full faster, therefore you eat less.

This tip kind of goes along with one of the earlier ones, listen to your belly. When you hear your stomach growls, it’s not just for laughs, your stomach is telling you to feed it! That’s why you should always have a healthy snack alternative for times like that. When hunger hits you that’s when you will most likely slip up and eat something you’ll regret right after you’ve eaten it.

I’m sure growing all of you have heard to finish what’s on your plate because there’s somebody starving somewhere! Even Though that may be true, it’s always good to leave some food on your plate. It’s a good habit to eat to the point where you are almost full, don’t stuff yourself!

Last tip is the  most important, water. Stay away from sugary drinks, stick with plain water. Everyone knows that soda is bad for you and anything else with empty calories. The fountain of youth had water in it not diet coke! Make sure to drink at least 8 cups of water a day, with summer coming the most important thing is to stay hydrated.

I hope you are able to take this information and make it work for you. Summer is right around the corner and everyone wants a tight beach bod for that bikni or board shorts.

Your goal is attainable as long as you put in the work!

The Joy of Chewing Beef Jerky

To some, chewing beef jerky is anything but joyous! To those of us that love beef jerky, chewing it is one of the best parts.

When you put a piece of delicious beef jerky in your mouth, the slower you chew the more flavor you get out of it. It’s kind of like the age old saying, you get out it what you put in. One of the processes to making beef jerky is marinating the beef. Some flavors are marinated for a short time and some are marinated for a longer period of time.

When you chew the flavors that are marinated for short time, the flavor comes out right as you begin chewing. When you chew the flavors that have been marinating for  a while, the more you chew the more flavor you get. Especially the more complex flavors, the more you chew, you taste all the little ingredients.

The whole process of marinating and manufacturing beef jerky is in actuality a science! When you put together a recipe, you have to take into account that beef jerky is not something that someone is going to just put in their mouth and swallow, this is something that is going to be chewed before it is swallowed. You have to make sure that there is going to be plenty of flavor throughout this whole chewing experience.

For those that hate chewing traditional beef jerky, there is another type of jerky that is made from ground beef. The ingredients that go into this type of jerky are actually mixed into the ground beef which assures a joyous chewing experience.

Chewing the ground beef jerky as opposed to the cut beef jerky, is a different kind of experience, but non the less it is still beef jerky. Sometimes traditional beef jerky can be a little tough on the jaw, so the ground beef jerky is there for a go between. Just in case you’ve lost that love and feeling for regular beef jerky, the gorund beef jerky is there as a crutch!

When you love something like beef jerky, anything associated with it is a joy!

Why RJ’s Kosher Beef Jerky Uses Jerky Oven

Kosher Beef Jerky Oven at RJ's

Oven - Kosher Beef Jerky @ RJ's

You ever wonder how we make the Kosher Beef Jerky here at RJ’s ?  It is quite a process, and we would like to share it with you, so when you taste our Jerky you realize why the quality is so high!  We use a conventional high powered beef jerky oven, specifically built for making beef jerky.  There are many reasons to use this type of oven as opposed to others, and here are just a few:

  • It tastes a lot better as opposed to the normal commercial beef jerky ovens and without any added preservatives or strange chemicals
  • It allows us for easy cleaning, this gives each jerky a fresh tasty flavor
  • It costs us much less to make the Jerky, thereby passing the savings on to you
This truly helps us keep the calorie count down and keep our jerky lean!  This in turns gives high protein and low in fat, as you may already know.  Our Jerky provides you with about 1.9 mg of iron in a 29 g serving and that is about 10% of your daily value, i think, double check that will ya?
Anyhow, did I forget to mention the Vitamin B-12 that it carries?  This way you won’t have to get B-12 shots any longer, just chew on that kosher beef jerky.  It provides 1microgram of B-210 in about 100 grams, and that is about 16% of the six micrograms that you need in a single day.  Not bad eh?
Only negative I can think of is if you are restricing your sodium/salt intake, if so, jerky may not be the best option for you.  Otherwise, place your order now:
Kosher Beef Jerky - B-12 Vitamins
